BANISHED
In January 2019 I was co- costume designer for the modern opera Banished. The show was performed in conjuction with the Royal Irish Acadamy of Music and took place in the historic Kilmainham Goal. Composed by Stephen McNeff and directed by Caitriona McLaughlin, the opera deals with the horrors faced by a group of women prisoners travelling to Australia in 1805.
This was a challenging but very enjoyable project to work on, conditions in Kilmainham were different from a normal production but it made for an excellent setting. The time during which the opera was set was pertinent for the area of design I am interested in working in. Below, the development and final pieces for the five characters I was responsible for are outlined visually.
